A
Mounting Problem ...
|
Following
completion of the Volumex 7 Fin outlet manifold during 2008, we were
asked to offer the special supercharger rear mounting Kit. The manifold
profile was deliberately low with the outlet pipe only rising 7/16 inch
above the chassis rail, so we designed a U-tube chassis casting which,
after three prototypes, was fit for the job. The casting utilises
all three main wingstay mounting holes for J/F2 wingstays to include
the Andre Hartford mounting pin hole but without the need to use new
mounting pins with longer threads to accommodate the thickness of the
casting. The casting itself incorporates a headlamp wiring channel in
it’s base and helps keep the blower in it’s rear most mounting position
to reduce the need to alter the blower cowl profiles at the front end.
These manifolds including the staggered back carburettor manifold are
now being used on other makes of car to include vintage Rally and
postwar BMW.
To
retain a
period look to our mounting assemblies, we now supply both
short and tall body mounting clamps. These have extra length in the
threads to accommodate the thickness of the mounting plates for the
blower. When using for the body tub, the surplus can be removed. These
are the correct MG profile parts, complete with recess, and can be
viewed on the website in our Latest New Parts section.

Some more
exciting news is that we are now in the process of producing our own
supercharger coupling and drive assemblies. These are once again, being
machined here in Yorkshire and are being produced exclusively for
Vintage MG Parts. They will be available soon at a fair price. More
details coming soon ...

In
Control ...
|
 January saw the
announcement of our slow running and choke control rods for the F/J/L
types and P/N types. These were made in-house, and are meticulous
copies
of the originals but with the benefit of the rods being produced in
highly
polished stainless steel to last for generations.
To visit our webpages for more information, click here for F/J/L types and click
here for P/N types.

In
the Spotlight ...
|
Earlier
in the year,
we received an opportunity to become internet retailing
agents for the sale of exceptional quality reproduction 8 inch Lucas
L140
style headlamps. The L140's were fitted to the late J types, P types
and early T
types. These reproductions are available with flat frosted or domed
fluted glass and
with or without
stoneguards and chromed or bare finish brass bowls.
Having studied the quality craftsmanship and accuracy to detail, we
willingly accepted this opportunity. Sadly, the photographs simply do
not do the justice deserved by these headlamps.

A
Strapping Product ...
|
As
many MMM enthusiasts know, Vintage MG Parts welcome receiving
suggestions for the manufacture of new parts with the correct
original profile. We had received several requests to manufacture petrol tank straps for the P Type. One of our
customers kindly loaned
us some original straps which we used as a pattern to accurately
reproduce in-house, and with the added benefit of being made in
polished
stainless steel for everlasting good looks! These are now available and
being fitted to our customer’s cars. Having now also received an
original T Type strap, we are able to offer these with subtle
alterations and with the same
specification finish as the P Type. These can of course, be painted if
you so wish,
with a suitable acid
etch primer.
We also stock
the tank strap rubbers.

Video
Clips and Technical Articles ...
|
During
April
2010, we have been developing our Links
webpage to include additional links
to some early 1930’s MG video clips along with a Technical
Articles section. This includes a very interesting article on Flywheel
Lightening by Chris Leydon in the USA.
Please feel free to submit articles or links that would appeal to
fellow MMM enthusiasts.

Stoneleigh
2010 ...
|
Once again, we
resisted the temptation to book a stall since we are an internet
business. It was great to mingle with the crowd and engage
in MMM conversation with all our MMM friends and restock with
consumables.

Other
News ...
|
See our Latest
New Parts section for some further new products including ENOTS
hose
clips, seat rake adjusters and bronze intermediate rocker shaft
supports. We are continuously working on more new parts to be announced
this year and we have more goodies coming shortly.
In our continuous quest to find quality service providers for tasks
that we cannot undertake in-house, we have very recently been
introduced to yet another local company who are expert panel
fabricators (including tube manipulation work). They have already
undertaken
some work for us with rapid turnaround and have expressed a keen
interest to do more with us to develop and produce MMM parts samples
for
future projects. Their
business
developed originally within the performance car industry and we are
very impressed with all we have seen so far.

Another
Year Older ...
|
Vintage
MG Parts is now 2 years old and this year we have steadily worked on
expanding our range of parts and as always, we are very grateful for
the feedback and support received from our loyal customers and MMM
friends.
We still continue to invest all of our profits into the development of
further
new parts for the benefit of the MMM enthusiast and even though our
business has grown to a level higher than we had ever
imagined, we still endeavour to respond promptly to all enquiries, day
and night, seven days a week and even when we are on holiday. We do it
because we
enjoy what we do!
In early April we decided to fire up the J Type as spring has
arrived (hopefully). It started first time having
remained dormant for many months and just prior to taking it for a
blast out of the village we noted that the MOT had expired last
September! We had been so involved with Vintage MG Parts that our own
projects had taken a back seat. No doubt this year will be no
different but we are hoping to fit in some time to concentrate on the
F2, and we have already MOT'd the J Type which, after a few tweaks,
passed first time.
Later in the year will see the arrival of 2 new MG enthusiasts, twins
to Madeleine & John, Richard’s sister and brother-in-law who own
the blue J1 on our Family History webpage, affectionately known as
the ‘Little Blue Slipper’. Whilst
good news, this does however create a problem within the Hardy family,
in that we have 10 MG seats available in the roadworthy cars (plus the
picnic) but we will require 11. One suggestion was to put the F2 on the
road but with an F1 body. This problem is not going to be easily
resolved before the twin’s arrival. Alternatively does anyone have an
old KN saloon they no longer require?
With best wishes for a warm summer and many happy hours of MMM motoring
Richard & Jill at Vintage MG Parts
